Anti-Ragging
Maryam Ajmal Women’s College of Science and Technology is committed to a zero-tolerance policy against ragging in accordance with the UGC Regulations on curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009, framed under the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in University of Kerala v. Council of Principals of Colleges and related orders dated 16.05.2007 and 08.05.2009, which made anti-ragging compliance mandatory for all colleges and universities in India. The institution has constituted an Anti-Ragging Committee, mentoring and counselling system, complaint mechanism, hostel vigilance, CCTV surveillance, awareness orientation programmes, undertakings/affidavits from students and parents, display of helpline numbers, and regular monitoring of vulnerable areas as required under UGC norms.
Ragging includes physical abuse, verbal humiliation, cyber bullying, intimidation, harassment, forced acts, mental torture or any conduct causing fear, shame or distress to any student. Students found guilty may face warning, apology, fine, suspension from classes/hostel, withholding scholarship, debarring from examinations, rustication, expulsion, cancellation of admission, transfer certificate with adverse entry, or filing of FIR and criminal prosecution under applicable law.
UGC has also reiterated through recent compliance notices that institutions failing to implement anti-ragging measures may face withdrawal of grants, derecognition or disciplinary action, making strict enforcement essential. The college therefore encourages every student to maintain dignity, equality and a safe academic environment free from ragging.
